Sportmix, Pro Pac, Splash, Nunn Better and other dry dog and cat foods containing corn, made at the Chickasha, Oklahoma plant. Initial recall of nine lots of Sportmix products on Dec 30, 2020, expanded Jan 11, 2021 to all corn-containing pet foods from the Oklahoma plant expiring on or before July 9, 2022, with more than 1,000 lot codes affected.
Reason: Aflatoxin (a toxin from Aspergillus flavus mold on corn) at levels exceeding acceptable limits. FDA was aware of more than 110 dogs dead and more than 210 sick as of Jan 21, 2021 (later counts exceeded 130 deaths).

Reason: Elevated vitamin D caused by a vitamin premix supplier error; toxic levels can cause kidney failure and death. Recall initiated late January 2019, expanded March 20, 2019, and again in May 2019 with one additional lot.
